Tranmere story
Wirral-born centre-back Derek Mountfield began his professional career with Tranmere Rovers before moving to Everton in 1982. At Goodison Park he won two league championships, the FA Cup and the European Cup Winners’ Cup during a highly successful period for the club.
Mountfield later represented Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Carlisle United and Northampton Town. He moved into coaching and management after his playing career, including roles with Walsall, Scarborough and Cork City.
